PROJECT:

Alinea

For Alinea (The Alinea Group), Chicago’s famous Michelin 3-Star fine dining restaurant serving a seasonally driven tasting menu from star chef Grant Achatz, JackLee was brought on to spearhead the restaurant’s remodel in collaboration with both an architect and a designer. When JackLee joined the crew, the bones of the design were already completed, but there was still a lot to be done in terms of a truly polished design build. The JackLee team navigated the myriad obstacles that come along with re-imagining an existing Chicago building, including addressing the difficult ellipses and overall curvature of the building’s walls which demanded an extreme level of precision. In addition, JackLee repositioned the restaurant’s main stairs to open up the floorplan while handsomely incorporating structural steel to support the new staircase opening. Working within a 12-week timeline, JackLee’s window for error was non-existent, and finding creative solutions for aspects of the project that would normally require longer lead times was par for the course.
